"THE GEORGE AND DRAGON REUNITED!"
About Us
The George and Dragon has been a public house for over 150 years and has seen many changes during that time. The most dramatic of these changes came in 1999 when the building was completely refurbished and the focus changed from that of a traditional village pub to that of a restaurant.

During the last ten years the premises has been owned by various pub chain companies and is presently owned by Punch Taverns
Similarly, over the past 25 years there has been a succession of landlords and landladies at the helm eager to welcome customers.

During its many years as a traditional public house, prior to the refurbishment, The George and Dragon was home to a local football club ‘George and Dragon United’. For over 20 years Peter Gough was involved in the running of the club, as both a player and later as a manager. Now, some 20 years later Peter is back at the George and Dragon and once again as Manager – this time of the business.

"Our Motto":
Being attentive without being obtrusive is
a delicate balance that the team has mastered over their many years experience of staging events, functions and entertainment of a diverse nature.
But don't let us tell you..........Come along and experience it for yourself !!

The evening menu is served Monday through to Saturday from 6.30 to 9pm offering an excellent mix of traditional dishes such as steak, lamb shank and gammon while introducing some new ideas to the specials blackboard including some of Peter’s homemade dishes - rabbit pie and aubergine tikka masala.

There is a specials board which is changed almost daily due to the popularity of the dishes offered.

The team, while already catering for vegetarians are looking to offer a wider choice with the development of a “meat-free” Menu with many of the dishes being homemade in house.

Similarly, the introduction of a ‘Young Diners’ menu will offer that same range of choice to those with smaller appetites.

Sunday lunchtime there is a carvery served from 12.30 through to 3.30pm with a choice of meats, potatoes and vegetables all freshly cooked.
Also on a Sunday a limited main menu is available 12:30 to 5:00 pm.

The George and Dragon aims to offer fresh, home cooked food wherever possible with most produce being sourced locally.

The new management team at the George and Dragon consists of Peter, his wife Ann and their friends of 27 years Steve and Margaret Fern.

The team have formed a company, affectionately known as SPAM( Steve, Peter, Ann, Margaret) to run the business.
Their aim is to provide a friendly, quality and affordable drinking and dining experience in relaxed, comfortable surroundings.

The entrance bar area has been completely redecorated and refurnished with the intention of marketing the business as a unique blend of the Dragons past and present – to encourage people to see the establishment as a restaurant and also as a place to enjoy a social drink. To this end the business has been renamed ‘The George and Dragon Pub and Dining Rooms’.

The George and Dragon serves a variety of hand-pulled ales (Guest Beer, Abbotts Ale and Black Sheep), lagers, locally sourced wines and soft drinks.

The George and Dragon has a bar area and 3 separate dining areas, two of which also have a real open fire, and all are tastefully decorated giving a true homely feel you can really relax in.

The lunchtime menu is served Tuesday through to Friday from 12:00 to 2:30pm and has a variety of starters, hot meals, baguettes, panninis and jacket potatoes all rounded off with a tempting choice of deserts.
